11/09/07 The first rough cut of the movie
is finished but a lot work still needs to be done. Temp music and sfx have been added.
12/2/07 We shoot additional footage this week and plan on more scenes to come.
It seems you never really get finished with a movie.
12/15/07 Shot more footage this weekend. Started out cold and got colder... great wekend to plan exterior
dialogue footage. I need to remind myself to never shoot during the winter again unless I'm on a tropical
island.
12/26/07 Back to the
editing room to cut additional scenes and tighten the edit. Lots to do and we are behind schedule now.
01/11/08 Trying to schedule time for second unit shooting. First Rough
cut is almost complete but it's driving me crazy trying to get missing footage shot.
01/27/08 Went back trough the movie and began to change the order of some of the scenes to see
if it would help any... nope, complete failure. One of these days we will get the second unit stuff shot and all will
come together.
02/15/08 Begining to clean up audio...
some of it was pretty rough but able to take cuts from other takes and "Frankenstein" some decent dialogue.
02/18/08 Met with the City for approval on using their police cars and
ambulance in the final scenes. They reviewed the movie and feel that a movie this graphic and full of gore doesn't
represent their fine city in such a good light. Offered to put a disclaimer in the credits... they will review next
month.
03/09/08 Well the second rough
cut is complete and moving straight into the third. Met with Chris, Cody and Susana... each gave their opinions on the
cut. Now I'll go back and see if those changes can be made without causing me to crash my computer. Storage
is almost maxed out and I haven't even begun to mess with sound fx and foley yet.
03/15/08 The City is refusing to let us use their name in the movie...
they had a secret (closed doors meeting) and voted to not have the city attached to such a horrific movie. Enough said,
moving on!
04/01/08 April fools day and finishing
the fifth rough cut. Cut 4 didn't change enough to warrant another viewing and this 5th cut is including sfx and
foley. I'm also cleaning dialogue up as I go along. I have the movie divided up in 6 equal parts and it takes
a couple of days to go over the 12-15 minute segments and tweak them. Scoring is also being done in a rough right now
so by the time I'm ready to hand the movie over to scoring the visual fx should be finished and we will be ready to start
soliciting the distributors.
04/14/08 Because
I've been so busy on this movie I've neglected my duties on After Sundown and now I've got a couple of days to
get all the tax stuff ready. I hate the business part of show business sometimes.
04/27/08 Still trying to get everything ready for taxes and stuff as well as get this movie edited and off for the visual effects portion of post. We also have Matt Chaney working on scoring and from some of his sample work I think he'll fit in.
05/13/08 I just said "suck it" to the tax stuff and we will file late. We don't owe money anyway since we haven't made any money. I'm getting back on track with the editing but now I face the issue of moving... where did all these boxes come from?
05/15/08 I feel sick about missing the deadline for our tax stuff but had to be done. Saw some of Cody's visual effects stuff... this will be an interesting movie to finish.
06/04/08 Having to movie in the middle of finishing a movie and what all can go wrong always does. My motherboard had a melt down and now I'm scrambling to get another computer. Why did this have to happen so close to being finished? Why I ask you, WHY?
06/10/08 Got another computer but I have to rebuild the entire movie from scratch. Some of the project files got corrupted in the meltdown while others are just being difficult. The computer is better, stronger, faster... but doesn't have the expansion/upgrading like the last one. Of course the last one was 3 years old and sucked.
06/21/08 I'm still rebuilding the movie. Thought I could cheat and get the exported version from Cody but his timeline is screwed up because I got lazy when dumping the footage and labeled several tapes the same. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus but he doesn't come to those who get lazy when dumping footage. By the way, I hate computers.
07/04/08 Happy Birthday America! Finally got all the project files up to speed but gave myself a heart attack the other night when I tried to pull up one of the project files and it wanted me to rebuild it. Turned out it was an old file "delete". We are back on track but about 2 months behind by my schedule. I once had someone tell me that you can't put an artist on a schedule... I told that person that I'm not an artist... artists are people who don't want to make money while they are living. I'm a businessman, that's why I work in showBUSINESS.
07/07/08 My friend Josh Gobin (The Fanglys and After Sundown) got married this weekend. Had the biggest reception I've ever been to for a wedding. Lots of people in the business were there, I sat at a table with at least 3 other indie film makers... we all talked about how bad post production can be. I'm ready to finish this movie so I can get on with the next movie.
